Lupine
Lupine is a beautiful but controversial plant in Iceland. It is very effective at stopping sand drift, but the problem is that it spreads very quickly, and some believe it can threaten the Icelandic vegetation and even push it out. It has unique soil-improving qualities and plays a role in supporting food security. The discussion in Iceland is therefore both ecological and emotional, and most people in the country have an opinion about the lupine.
