María Hafsteinsdóttir
My name is María Hafsteinsdóttir and I am 64 years old, raised in Sandgerði until I was 9 years old. Then I moved to Keflavík and have lived there since then, except for 10 years when I lived in Akureyri between 2007 and 2017. My paternal grandmother and mother taught me to knit and needlework in general. I still live by that and am grateful for this knowledge. Now I try to pass it on to my younger descendants. Every day I sit down and just do some knitting. For me, it is peace of mind and most enjoyable to be given a challenging project to work on. During the day, I work as an assistant at a law firm, so it is good to sit down after a hard day and rest my mind with a knitting project or needlework. When I am not knitting, I do a hard and monastic project, which is embroidery in jafa. My hobbies outside of needlework have been motorcycles and I have traveled a lot on a Harley Davidson motorcycle both in Iceland and abroad. In recent years, my husband and I have traveled a lot around the highlands of Iceland in jeeps and it is good to have the knitting needles with me and knit when driving between places.
